What is A/B testing?

A/B testing allows you to test two variations of a single variable. Common A/B tests can uncover the most effective age, gender, placement or lookalike percentage for a specific account or funnel stage.

To run an accurate A/B test, the budget and all other factors must be identical, to ensure that the chosen variable is the only differentiating factor.

For example, if you wanted to find which gender is the most profitable - females or males - you would set up two audiences in the same exact way, except for the gender variable. One ad set will target male users while the other will target female users- this split allows you to isolate the gender variable and find out which gender performs better.

Once you've run your experiment for a few days, you can identify the top performer by comparing whichever KPIs are the most important to you: ROAS, cost per click, click-through rate, or others.

How to run an A/B test?

With Madgicx, setting up an A/B test is quick and easy. Follow the steps below to start your first A/B test in just a few clicks.

Start from the audience launcher: you can use any audience to create an A/B test. Start the launch process, and then follow the steps below.

Step 1:

First, Select the audience from above that you wish to run your A/B test on. Make sure you've set your audience's recency, conversion type, location, age, gender, and placement using the widgets below.

Step 2.

Click on the duplicate icon: it will create a 'clone' of this audience.

Step 3.
Select the first ad set, and set the differentiating factor for the first ad set. In the image example below, we're changing the lookalike percentage. However, you can do the same for any variant such: age, gender, etc. Once you've done so, click on

Save Changes.

Step 4.
Click the 'cloned' Ad-Set and change the same differentiating factor. You've created two ad sets that are identical except for one variable- the perfect A/B test.

Step 5.

Once you're ready, click on Save Changes in the top right corner to continue to launch your ad sets.

You can create as many duplicates as you want: just keep duplicating the ad sets. You can also run an A/B test to test your best creatives by launching two identical ad sets with different ads.

That's how you run an A/B test in a few quick steps! Try it out and discover unique insights about your account.
